Why we hide, with our words…

With great clarity, comes great responsibility.

(I’m paraphrasing Uncle Ben here.)

That’s why we tend to avoid being rigorously clear about what we say — so we can hide behind a veil of vague promises and statements.

Without clear speech and writing, it’s easy to get away with unfulfilled promises; it’s easy to pretend we don’t lack competency and knowledge.

When we are clear about what we know, and what we promise — we hold ourselves responsible to high-quality thinking and work.
